Dr. Zahi Hawass Receives Honorary Doctorate from Shanghai International Studies University

A prestigious new academic distinction for Dr. Zahi Hawass, who has received an Honorary Doctorate from Shanghai International Studies University, becoming only the second person in the university’s 75-year history to receive this degree, following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The doctorate was awarded after a rigorous academic process, including endorsements from scholars representing four different countries. The University President praised Dr. Hawass’s international standing and his major contributions to archaeology and Egyptology.

This marks Dr. Hawass’s 13th honorary doctorate from 13 different countries. During the ceremony, he donated five of his academic books to the university library and delivered a lecture on his discoveries in the Valley of the Kings, followed by a discussion with students.

The celebration concluded with a dinner hosted by the University President in his honor.
